'Deathly Hallows: Part Two' confirmed for 3D

Harry Potter producer David Heyman has confirmed that the 3D conversion of the final film is going ahead.

The 3D release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part One was cancelled after filmmakers were unable to complete the transition into 3D for the entire film. Most recently, Mark Williams (Arthur Weasley) expressed doubt that the conversion of the final movie, Deathly Hallows: Part Two, would be approved.

However, speaking to Collider, Heyman asserted that the 3D release will go ahead, saying: "Yes it is. The reason we didn't do it on the first part was because we didn't feel that we could do it justice. And actually the 3D would compromise the film, so we didn't have the time."

Fellow producer David Barron explained: "We were diving into 3D for the first time - it was a new world for us, and so we didn't get off to a fine start. There wasn't time to do it properly, and so Warners very, very kindly supported us. I'm sure they were wishing it was not the case, but they were hugely supportive to not put out something that we weren't happy with."

Heyman revealed that the team are "really excited about the quality" of the conversion of the final film.

"We feel it adds something to the film and is really immersive, as opposed to taking out, which I think a lot of 3D can do," he said. "And it's been great for us going through that process to lead into the theatrical because I think we've learned an awful lot. David Yates is approaching 3D from a character point of view."

Barron continued: "It's a storytelling aid. Rather than being a special effect gimmick where it's like, 'Oh that's cool', we're using it to help tell the story better."

His colleague added: "It's probably gonna be more subtle than on some films. We're not gonna have tons of stuff flying out the screen - we'll have some, but not much. The depth will not necessarily be as great as some films. But it will make the film feel larger, be more immersive, and I think it will add to the stories as opposed to take away."

McG launches Apsen comics imprint

McG's Wonderland Sound and Vision has launched a comics imprint to create 'transmedia' properties.

The Terminator Salvation and Charlie's Angels director is working with Aspen Comics to create titles that can then be developed into feature films and television shows, reports Deadline.

Wonderland's first title will be Haunted City, based on a concept from screenwriter Chap Taylor (Changing Lanes), who is writing the comic alongside Wonderland's Peter Johnson.

Haunted City will also be developed into a movie screenplay that McG hopes to direct, a TV pilot that Wonderland will executive produce, and a potential video game.

"As a filmmaker, I want to work with talent like Chap to build new models that allow us to create more freely," McG said. "By creating our own original properties, we can guide their development across several media simultaneously and kick off a whole new chapter of our company as a full-spectrum content provider. It also allows me to home-grow the movies I want to direct in the future."

Wonderland has already been involved in seeing its Supernatural, Chuck and Human Target properties adapted into comic books by DC Comics.

McG was recently rumoured to be directing the forthcoming Wonder Woman television show, but the role has reportedly gone to Jeffrey Reiner.

Carla Gugino: 'Sin City 2 might happen'

Carla Gugino has said that there is a real possibility of Sin City 2 being made.

The actress, who played Lucille in the first movie, admitted that "everyone always asks" about the potential sequel.

Gugino said that co-directors Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller "really want" to make the follow-up to the 2005 adaptation of Miller's comics.

"It seems there's a possibility that it will actually happen," she said. "But it's about timing for so many people on that one, so we shall see."

Rodriguez recently confirmed that he would like to cast Bruce Willis in the movie, after previously revealing that he has been rewriting the script for the film

Ridley Scott to direct Gertrude Bell biopic

Ridley Scott reportedly plans to direct a biopic about famed archaeologist and diplomat Gertrude Bell.

The Alien director will produce the project with Giannina Facio for his and Tony Scott's Scott Free Productions, reports Deadline.

The Constant Gardener screenwriter Jeffrey Caine is penning the film's script.

The movie would follow Bell's life as a writer, political officer, administrator and archaeologist who influenced British imperial policy-making and advised the government on Middle East politics in the time leading up to World War II.

Scott is also reportedly developing a TV adaptation of Kate Mosse novel Labyrinth.

The director's next film project is the sci-fi thriller Prometheus starring Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Noomi Rapace and Idris Elba.

McFarlane: 'Spawn reboot is low-budget'

Todd McFarlane has revealed that his proposed Spawn reboot will be a low-budget "spook" film.

Speaking to My DVD Insider, the series creator said that he plans to write, direct and produce the project.

"There's only one way a studio is going to say yes, that's if it's a low-budget movie. To be honest, as a producer, even I wouldn't hire myself to direct a big-budget film," he explained.

"There are smarter people out there. But if you're making it for $10 million to $12 million, you're just going to go get some schmuck director so let me be the schmuck."

He added: "In this new version, there are no supervillains, archenemies or any of that. It's just a spook movie, something scary going bump in the night. I think I can shoot that for almost next to nothing."

McFarlane also confirmed that he is three quarters of the way into a screenplay for the film, having commenced work on it in 2009.

Monsters Inc 2 is officially titled Monsters University

Pixar have officially announced the title for their new Monsters, Inc. movie, revealing it will be called Monsters University.

Making the announcement at the ongoing CinemaCon, the studio would unveil nothing further about the movie other than its natty new moniker.

Rumours about the plot, however, precede them. Talk on the street is that Monsters University will be a prequel rather than a sequel.

The rumoured plot would show how monsters Mike Wazowski (voiced by Billy Crystal) and James P. Sullivan (voiced by John Goodman) wind up as best friends at the University of Fear, after starting out as enemies.

Though prequels can generally be a bit of a pain, there’s no doubt that Pixar are world-leaders in movie quality – we’re sure they can pull off another stellar follow-up.

Monsters University opens 2 November, 2012.

Chris Hemsworth 'too big' for 'Thor' costume

Chris Hemsworth has revealed that he grew too muscular for his Thor costume.

The actor trained to the point that the outfit for his starring role in the upcoming Marvel Comics adaptation had to be altered.

"I got the part and immediately started looking at the comic books, and the guy is 500 pounds or something and looks like Schwarzenegger," he told the Los Angeles Times. "And I thought, 'OK, I'm not gonna get to that'. But I have to get bigger.

"[The filmmakers] kept saying, 'Yeah, get as big as you can, as big as you can'. And then I came back right before Christmas, just before we started the movie, and had a final sort of camera test and put the costume on and within a couple of minutes, my hands started going numb.

"And everyone was like, 'Yeah, that's not cool'. And I started getting pins and needles and you'd touch the skin and the blood wouldn't return to that area so quick. And I thought, 'OK, it doesn't fit'."

The ex-Home and Away and Star Trek actor has received support in his upcoming role from high-profile comics industry figures including Joss Whedon and former Marvel chief creative officer Joe Quesada.

Synopsis for Sucker Punch

After the death of her mother, Baby Doll (Emily Browning) and her sister are almost killed by their stepfather in his attempt to claim their inheritance for himself. Baby Doll gets her Stepfather's gun and tries to kill him -- but kills her sister instead. This gives her stepfather the perfect reason to claim that Baby Doll is insane, and has her committed.

At the Institution, Baby Doll is ushered into an auditorium with other mentally disturbed girls and their therapist, Dr. Vera Gorski. Here, Baby Doll overhears her stepfather discussing an arrangement with the Asylum's director, Blue Jones- Blue has forged Gorski's signature to approve a lobotomy on Baby Doll in five days.

Baby Doll also overhears Dr. Gorski telling the girls that they have power within their minds; through her imagination, Baby Doll then visualizes the Institution as a dance hall, with her stepfather as a corrupt priest and Blue as the owner of the dance hall. Dr. Gorski is seen as the dance instructor for the girls in the hall. Another girl, Rocket quickly befriends Baby Doll, but Rocket's older sister, Sweet Pea, scoffs at her. A bond forms soon after when Baby Doll saves Rocket from being attacked by the Institution's cook.

Dr. Gorski tries to get Baby Doll to dance and, finally, Baby does. When she dances, Baby Doll finds herself transported to a Japanese Dojo.

Inside the Dojo, Baby Doll finds an old man (played by Scott Glenn) who gives her sound advice. He claims to know that the High-Roller (outside Baby Doll's imagination, he is the lobotomist) will come for Baby Doll in five days, and he gives Baby Doll weapons for her survival: a katana sword and a handgun, which can be used in her dream world. The old man also states that, if Baby Doll is to live, she must collect five objects: a map, fire, a knife, a key, and a fifth object, which she'll need to discover for herself. Upon leaving the Dojo, Baby Doll is set upon by three giant samurai warriors. At first passive, Baby Doll soon slays the giants, and her "dance" ends.

The other girls in the dance troupe are impressed: all except Sweet Pea. In the dressing room later, Baby Doll outlines her escape plan to several of the girls. Rocket and two other girls, Blondie and Amber, are willing to help, but Sweet Pea takes some coaxing before finally agreeing, and with the condition that they give up if the plan becomes too dangerous.

The girls put a plan into effect to get the map in Blue's office. Sweet Pea coaxes Blue to watch Baby Doll dance. After he leaves his office, she uses a copying machine to make a copy of the facility's map.

Meanwhile, Baby Doll dances for Blue and goes into her dream-state. In a World War I setting, the old man appears, giving the girls orders to retrieve a map being held by steam-punk, reanimated German infantrymen. Amber pilots a giant mech-suit while the girls make their way into the enemy trenches. They manage to retrieve the map, and Baby Doll's dance for Blue ends.

Blue tells Gorski that he is impressed and wants to have Baby Doll perform for the Mayor. Gorski says that Baby Doll is not ready for such a performance, but Blue demands his way. He then returns to his office, only to find the copier still warm, and the push-pins in the facility's map in a slightly different arrangement.

The girls soon get wind of the request, and Amber is chosen to retrieve the Mayor's cigar lighter. It will give them the fire that they need.

When the Mayor visits for the performance, Amber retrieves the lighter while Baby Doll distracts him with a dance. Her imagination gives way, and she finds herself in a medieval setting with the old man and the other girls, aboard a World War II bomber. The old man outlines the plan: to make their way into the castle below, slit the throat of a baby dragon, and retrieve two stones in its throat that will produce fire . . . without awaking the mother of the dragon.

Amber and Blondie stay on the plane; Baby Doll, Sweet Pea, and Rocket land and enter the castle. Fighting off a horde of evil creatures, Baby Doll manages to find the baby dragon. She kills it and retrieves the stones, but not before the baby cries out -- and its enormous mother hears. The enormous dragon pursues the girls, until Baby Doll at last kills it, driving her kitana into its brain.

In the club, the dance ends. The girls gather in their dressing room, ecstatic that Amber has retrieved the second thing on the list. They hide it none too soon as Blue and his henchmen come to see the girls. His tone is one of malice: he says that he feels hurt that the girls may be hiding something from him or doing something behind his back. After he leaves, Sweet Pea demands that they call the plan off; but the other girls want to see it through to the end.

The girls (except Blondie) soon are working in the kitchen, with the intent to get a knife from the cook. They shock him when they suddenly set up Baby Doll to 'perform,' with Rocket attempting to placate him, while Sweet Pea retrieves the knife from one of his holsters.

Baby Doll then goes into her dance, and in her mind's eye, the girls find themselves on a strange planet in a helicopter piloted by Amber. The old man is with them again, giving orders that there is a bomb on a speeding train headed for a futuristic city. The girls are to disable the bomb, and get away with it. Baby Doll, Sweet Pea, and Rocket make their way through an army of cyborg guards, and disable the bomb. However, one of the cyborgs is not completely destroyed, and he ends up reactivating it. With little time to spare, Rocket sacrifices herself to save Baby Doll and Sweet Pea.

This is reflected in the kitchen when the cook catches Sweet Pea attempting to steal his knife. He then attempts to stab her, but instead stabs Rocket, killing her. Blue soon finds out, and has Sweet Pea locked away, when the cook tells what she was doing.

Amber manages to hide the knife, but the next day, 'The High-Roller' arrives to see Baby Doll. The girls are still without their 4th and 5th elements to escape. As they prepare for their performance, Blue arrives in the dressing room, and explains that Blondie told him everything, under the pretenses that none of the girls would be hurt. Blue then threatens Gorski, before shooting Amber and Blondie. Everyone else leaves the dressing room, as Blue attempts to have his way with Baby Doll. However, she manages to find the knife Amber hid, and stabs him in the shoulder. In his dazed state, she claims 'you'll never have me,' and takes his key.

Baby Doll then retrieves the other items, and frees Sweet Pea. She then uses the lighter and a bottle of liquor to start a fire in a closet. They then use the map to make their way to the security doors, before the fire is found, and the alarms are pulled, which unlocks all the security doors. The two then sneak out to the front entrance, but find the way blocked by several large men.

It is then that Baby Doll realizes what the fifth item need to escape is: her. She then tells Sweet Pea that she was never meant to escape, but to help Sweet Pea get back to her family. Sweet Pea doesn't want to abandon Baby Doll, but finally does so, escaping through the front gates of the facility, as Baby Doll creates a distraction, before being brought back into the facility, and into the confines with the High-Roller.

The scene then transitions to the aftermath of the lobotomy. As the doctor cleans up, he is shaken by the look on Baby Doll's face, feeling that she showed almost no fear about what was to befall her. Dr Gorski soon talks to him, claiming that Baby Doll caused numerous problems at the facility, including setting fire to a closet, and even stabbing the head of the facility, Blue. The Lobotomist still questions the speed of the request that Gorski signed regarding Baby Doll, but the Doctor shockingly explains that she did not make any such request!

Meanwhile, the lobotomized Baby Doll is led away, but then to a private room where Blue is waiting. Once alone, he claims that the lobotomized girl has no way to stop him from doing what he wants...before the door bursts open, and Gorski, the Lobotomist and several officers are seen. The officers drag Blue out, as he wails that Baby Doll's Stepfather was the person behind the whole idea.

In an epilogue, we see Sweet Pea about to depart on a bus for Fort Wayne, Indiana. As she is about to get on, some officers come up and want to ask her some questions. Before she can respond, the bus driver (who we see is the same old man from Baby Doll's imaginative dreams!) tells the officers that the girl just stepped off the bus to use the restrooms, and that he has a schedule to keep. The officers believe him, and Sweet Pea boards the bus. She tells the driver she doesn't have a ticket, but he simply tells her to take a seat in the back and have a rest. As the bus takes off, we see it going down an old dirt road, passing a billboard with the words 'Paradise Diner' on it, a sign that almost hints to us that Sweet Pea is heading towards a new life.

Quentin Tarantino to next helm 'A Southern'

Uma Thurman has confirmed that Quentin Tarantino's follow-up to Inglourious Basterds will be a Western film titled A Southern.

Thurman, who worked with Tarantino on Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill, told Hollywood Outbreak that the director's new movie will push back their reunion on another picture about Kill Bill's The Bride.

"I think he has a script ready to start off a new film, A Southern," Thurman said. "I think it's really exciting. It's another new story and a fresh piece of material that he is channeling at the moment. So I think Kill Bill lives down the road."

Tarantino reportedly delivered the script for A Southern this month and has cast his Oscar-winning Basterds actor Christoph Waltz in one of the lead roles.

The filmmaker first outlined his plans for the Western in a 2009 interview with NY Daily News: "I'd like to do a Western. But rather than set it in Texas, have it in slavery times. With that subject that everybody is afraid to deal with. Let's shine that light on ourselves.

"You could do a ponderous history lesson of slaves escaping on the Underground Railroad. Or, you could make a movie that would be exciting. Do it as an adventure. A spaghetti Western that takes place during that time. And I would call it A Southern."

Tarantino recently become embroiled in a legal battle with True Blood creator Alan Ball, claiming that his neighbour's loud pet macaws were preventing him from working.

Production on the film is scheduled to begin later this year, with Brad Dourif continuing to voice Chucky.

The reboot of Child's Play is currently scheduled for a December 2011 release

Eli Roth reveals favourite horror films of 2010

Hostel director Eli Roth has admitted that he was pleasantly surprised at the high quality of horror movies released over the course of last year.

The Inglourious Basterds actor cited the likes of Let Me In, Monsters and Paranormal Activity 2 as some of his 2010 highlights.

"Paranormal Activity 2 I really, really liked. That movie was really scary," Roth said. "I actually saw it with Marilyn Manson and we were kind of cringing in each other's arms.

"We were jumping like school girls, it was fun. We've both seen everything so we don't think we're getting that scared, and then we see something that scares us," he added. "It's hard to scare us because we're pretty inured."

Rainn Wilson 'shocked at his sex appeal'

Rainn Wilson has admitted that his new role as an unlikely superhero in James Gunn's dark comedy Super has given him sex appeal to audiences for the first time.

Wilson, best known for his role as Dwight Schrute on the NBC comedy The Office, said that he was initially shocked when women admitted that they found themselves attracted to him after he took on the mantle of the 'Crimson Bolt'.

"What I didn't expect is that women are reacting to the movie," Wilson told the Los Angeles Times. "I have women coming up and saying, 'I never really thought of you as an attractive guy and in the first half of the movie you're such a schlub, but then by the end I was like, 'Wow'."

Super follows an unlucky middle-aged man who loses his wife to a charming strip club owner, and decides to become a real superhero in order to fight crime and win her back.

"I guess women really do like a guy with a square jaw in a costume blowing guys away," Wilson joked. "If he knows how to swing a wrench, a guy can be a hero."

The film also stars Liv Tyler, Kevin Bacon and Ellen Page as Wilson's teenage sidekick.

Amy Adams cast as 'Superman's Lois Lane

Academy Award-nominated actress Amy Adams has been cast to play Lois Lane in Warner's upcoming reboot of the Superman franchise.

The Los Angeles Times reports that Adams was given the news earlier today by the film's director Zack Snyder.

"There was a big, giant search for Lois," Snyder explained. "For us it was a big thing and obviously a really important role."

Over the past few months, several actresses had been rumoured to be in contention for the part, including
Anne Hathaway, Kristen Stewart, Dianna Agron and Rachel McAdams.

"We did a lot of auditioning, but we had this meeting with Amy Adams, and after that I just felt she was perfect for it," Snyder added.

It is currently unknown as to how much screen time Lane will have in the reboot, due to rumours suggesting that Lane won't be the film's female lead. However, Snyder himself described Lane's role as the "linchpin" that holds the story together.

Adams is probably best known for playing the lead role in Disney's live-action fantasy film Enchanted, but also received Academy Award nods for both the indie film Junebug and last year's The Fighter.

The actress will join previously-announced cast members Henry Cavill as Superman, Kevin Costner as Pa Kent and Diane Lane as Ma Kent when the film begins shooting later this year.

Superman: The Man of Steel is expected to be released in December 2012.

'Sucker Punch' stars explain film title

Sucker Punch star Abbie Cornish has explained the logic behind the film's title, claiming that it relates to the themes contained within the movie.

Zack Snyder's latest release tells the story of a group of young women who live in a mental asylum, and who have their world turned upside down by the arrival of a new inmate.

"Sucker punch is this idea of taking an unexpected blow," Cornish explained to MTV News. "A lot of the girls are totally unprepared for what's about to happen to them."

The actress explained that the arrival of Baby Doll, played by Emily Browning, changes the character's lives forever.

"[Baby Doll] changes their whole perception of freedom, of hope, of escapism," Cornish continued. "And so their ways of life are challenged, they're sucker-punched with this whole idea of freedom."

Co-star Carla Gugino agreed with Cornish's description of the film, claiming that it embodies its title by being something that "hits you in the gut".

Cornish recently said that she was surprised by how much she enjoyed being allowed to fire a gun and take part in fight scenes during the filming process.

Tara Reid denies 'Piranha 2' rumours

Tara Reid has denied claims that she has signed on to appear in the upcoming comedy horror sequel Piranha 3DD.

It was recently claimed that the former American Pie star had been cast in the film alongside Glee actor Mark Salling. However, Reid has now clarified the situation.

"I don't even know what that's about," she told Entertainment Weekly this weekend. "We knew nothing about that.

"We don't even know where that came from," the actress added.

Following the reports, a spokesperson for the Weinstein Company confirmed that neither actor has signed on for the sequel at the present time.

Feast director John Gulager will helm the follow-up to last year's remake, and it is believed that Ving Rhames is in talks to return for the second film.

It was recently reported that Reid was among the original cast members considering signing on for a new American Pie movie.
