'Battle: Los Angeles' scores UK BO No.1

Battle: Los Angeles has debuted in first place at the UK box office.

The Aaron Eckhart-led sci-fi blockbuster pulls in £1.7 million to narrowly edge past Johnny Depp's Rango and secure the chart top spot.

Thriller Unknown holds its position at number three, while The Adjustment Bureau falls to number four. New release Hall Pass, the latest comedy from the Farrelly brothers, completes the top five.

Elsewhere political thriller Fair Game is the only other new release to chart in the top ten, landing at number nine.

'Animal Kingdom' dominates Aus awards

Animal Kingdom has dominated at the Film Critics Circle of Australia Awards.

Various cast members of the Aussie crime movie, which saw 63-year-old actress Jacki Weaver nominated for an Academy Award earlier this year, won gongs at the Sydney event.

Weaver was named 'Best Actress', while co-stars Ben Mendelsohn and Joel Edgerton won the 'Best Actor' and 'Best Supporting Actor' titles. Director David Michôd won 'Best Director' and the movie also was named 'Best Film'.

Essie Davis won 'Best Supporting Actress' for South Solitary and other films to receive recognition were Bran Nue Day and Beneath Hill 60.

Seyfried: 'Hood is not like Twilight'

Amanda Seyfried has revealed that she is saddened by the comparisons between Red Riding Hood and Twilight.

Seyfried, who plays Valerie in Red Riding Hood, spoke to MTV News about the film, which is helmed by Catherine Hardwicke. Hardwicke also directed Twilight, inviting comparisons between the two movies.

"It's a bummer that that's what's happening," Seyfried said. "Yeah, I mean Red Riding Hood does surround a girl coming of age in a love triangle [like Twilight], but that's a lot of movies."

Seyfried confessed that she hopes that audiences will give Red Riding Hood a chance before writing it off as a clone of Twilight.

"The truth is, it's an entirely different story," she added. "I think audiences are going to be really surprised when they end up seeing this movie because... there's so many elements and there's so much going on."

Red Riding Hood is currently playing in US cinemas, and will be released in the UK on April 15.

Bartha: 'There's more Doug in Hangover 2'

Justin Bartha has confirmed that his character Doug will be appearing in the upcoming sequel to The Hangover, despite being absent from the film's recent teaser trailer.

Bartha also claimed that, contrary to what people might have expected, Doug will be playing a much larger role in the follow-up than he did in the first film.

"Doug isn't lost in this one," Bartha explained to Empire . "There are similar circumstances, but he's a little bit more involved,"

The actor also warned fans of the original not to dismiss the sequel as a simple cash-in, and promised that it would stand up to the high quality of the first film.

"Well your first instinct is to think, 'Sequel - s**tty version of the first film out to make money'," Bartha added. "But as soon as that thought entered my head I remembered; this is a movie written and directed by Todd Phillips with the cast and crew of The Hangover."

The Hangover: Part II is due to be released in US cinemas on May 26, and in the UK on May 27

Rodriguez hints at 'Avatar', 'Fast' returns

Michelle Rodriguez has teased that she may make an unexpected return to both the Avatar and Fast & Furious franchises.

The Battle: Los Angeles star, whose characters seemingly died in the latest instalments of both film series, explained how her appearance in 2014's Avatar 2 and the upcoming Fast & Furious: Rio Heist could be made possible.

When questioned by Indiewire on whether James Cameron could resurrect her character Trudy Chacon for his planned sci-fi sequel, Rodriguez bemoaned: "He's so cryptic and I hate it!

"He says, nobody in a sci-fi movie ever dies. He always used to say while we were shooting, 'Let's immortalise this'. So, is he talking about anyone who's in a sci-fi movie doesn't die, because people will watch it forever? Or does he mean, we can always bring you back, because of the tree of souls or whatever?"

On her character Letty Ortiz's apparent murder in 2009 sequel Fast & Furious, she added: "You know, it's interesting, you never saw a body..."

Rodriguez previously stated that she would like to be somehow involved in Avatar 2, even if that only means visiting the set.

Fast & Furious: Rio Heist is released in the UK on April 21 and the US on April 29.
