Film director Charles Jarrott dies at 83

British film director Charles Jarrott has died at the age of 83.

According to ABC News, Jarrott passed away in Los Angeles on Friday evening, although the official cause of death has yet to be released.

The director was well-known for his costume dramas, and won a Golden Globe in 1970 for his debut film Anne Of A Thousand Days.

Among his other notable films are the Oscar-nominated Mary, Queen Of Scots and the Emmy Award-winning A Promise Kept: The Oksana Baiul Story.

Jarrott had worked within the film industry for almost 50 years.
