'Darkest Hour' delayed until December

The upcoming sci-fi thriller The Darkest Hour has been delayed by Summit Entertainment.

According to Coming Soon, the film has been pushed back from its original release date in August to a launch in late December.

The Darkest Hour has already suffered delays before, after wildfires in Russia forced Summit Entertainment to temporarily halt production on the film last year.

The film follows five people who find themselves stranded in Moscow, where they are forced to band together in order to survive a crippling alien attack.

Night Watch creator Timur Bekmambetov is producing the film, which is being helmed by Right At Your Door director Chris Gorak.

Emile Hirsch was cast as one of the film's leads last year, joining the likes of Olivia Thirlby, Max Minghella and Joel Kinnaman.

The Darkest Hour is now expected to hit cinemas on December 23
