Steven Spielberg has accepted that he is an "old-fashioned" director.
The Jurassic Park helmer explained that although he is impressed by modern technologies, he still harbours a sense of nostalgia for the "homemade" productions of yesteryear.
"All kids have to do these days is take their cellphone, flip it open and make a movie, but I like the way it started," he noted to Empire.
"It wasn't a point-and-click art form, it was a craft. It involved solvents, photo-chemistry, cutting out poster board with industrial scissors and getting your fingers fused with Elmer's glue.
"It was all homemade stuff. If I was a chef, a microwave would be my worst enemy. I would want to do it the old-fashioned way."
Recalling where he first developed a passion for movie-making, Spielberg added: "My dad used to film our camping trips. He'd put the camera outside the window as we were driving along, and all you'd see was a blurring, brown motion of the Arizona desert streaking past. It got to the point where I begged him to be the videographer."
Spielberg serves as producer of J.J. Abrams's secretive picture Super 8, which sees a group of children witness the arrival of an monstrous being while filming a home movie in their small town.
Spielberg's next movies as a director will be The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn, which is released in the UK on October 26 and in the US on December 23, and War Horse, which hits US cinemas on December 28 and the UK on January 13, 2012.
